Para comparar objetos, pessoas, cidades, etc., utilizamos a forma comparativa dos adjetivos e advérbios.

Exemplos:

Our new house is larger than the old one.

 

Kate is taller than Kristina.

The shoes are more expensive than the boots..

                       

Veja as principais regras para escrever os comparativos corretamente:

1 – one syllable adjectives or adverbs: add -er

  • smart =  smarter
  • old =  older
  • slow = slower

1B – One syllable adjectives with a consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) Pattern: double the consonant and add -er.

  • wet  =  wetter
  • thin = thinner
  • big  =  bigger

2 – two syllable adjectives ending in Y: change the Y to I and add -er

  • pretty =  prettier
  • happy =  happier
  • busy = busier

3 – Adjectives or adverbs with two or more syllables: use MORE

  • popular =  more popular
  • interesting =  more interesting
  • carefully = more carefully

4- Irregular words:

  • good =  better
  • bad =  worse
  • far = farther (further)
  • well = better
  • badly = worse
  • little = less
